DUAL Concert 2005

In lieu of an annual charity ball, DUAL will be presenting our first charity concert An American Salute at the Victoria Concert Hall on Saturday, 27 August 2005, in support of The Canossian School. Mr. Kishore Mahbubani, Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS, and Former Singapore Ambassador to the UN and Foreign Service Postings to the U.S. will be gracing this evening as our Guest of Honor.

The evening will present a full symphonic band concert of music by great American composers including Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland, and a very special performance of George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" with the young piano virtuoso Kelvin Chan. The concert will be performed by Audio Image, the community band of the Siglap South Community Center, along with special performances by the American Women's Association Choir, American Association President David Barker, and The Canossian School Percussion Band.

The Canossian School will be our beneficiary this year. The Canossian School offers a comprehensive program for the education of children with a hearing impairment from infancy through the primary school years. The school operates on the natural auditory-oral philosophy that is akin to the normal language development stages of a child. Their aim is to help their pupils to reach their potential linguistically and academically, so that they can take their places independently and actively in society.

With the current technical and medical advancement, neonatal hearing screening has made it possible to detect hearing loss in babies. As a result of this, the Canossian School faces the challenge to expand their programs for these children. They have developed and are providing the Early Intervention Program for children with a hearing impairment from diagnosis to readiness school. In addition, the Canossian School has started the Magdalenian Fund?to assist needy pupils in the payment of school fees, transport fees, school uniforms, and costly maintenance and purchase of hearing devices. The net proceeds raised through An American Salute Concert will be used toward the above efforts. More details about the Canossian School can be found at www.cshi.com.

The DUAL Concert Committee seeks your support in sponsorship through your company or in a personal capacity, and in attendance of the DUAL Concert to support The Canossian School.
