Life After Bonding

Back by popular demand, the Cornell Club is pleased to once again bring you our Life After (Government) Bonding Seminar! With the strong enquiries previously received, we are also opening up this event up to our DUAL friends.

Initiated last year, this is an important Alumni-Helping-Alumni event where older alumni gather to share information about their jobs in an informal setting with people who are finishing their government bonds and interested in new fields. In addition, learn from other people's experiences from their job search processes. Expect to hear from a great line-up of Cornell alumni speakers from various industries including banking and finance/asset management, consulting, hospitality, teaching and bio research/technology. This year, in addition to an Executive Recruiter, we will also have a Human Resource (HR) professional talk about recruiting from the HR perspective.

Venue:

Restaurant Club Meeting - 'Relishing' Gourmet Burger

After the formal dining of the Chinese New Year and Valentine's, it seems appropriate to just chill out for a burger and beer on a breezy Friday evening.

Join the Restaurant Club at Relish this February where the manager has arranged for us to enjoy their best burgers and gourmet beers at a great price. This burger joint belonging to the same owner of Wild Rocket at Mt Emily and Wild Oats has gotten some rave reviews since its opening barely a few months ago. Are they worthy of the rave reviews? Seems like something Cornell should decide.

Cornell Restaurant Club Inaugural Dinner at the Wine Garage

Date:

Thursday, 13th September 2007

Time:

7:30pm

Venue:

Wine Garage, Clarke Quay (next to Brewerkz)

Price:

$60 (food only), $85 (food and matching wines)
There is also an option for a table red or while going at $12 to $13

Answering to the call for more social activities and restaurant outings by fellow Cornellians and fellow gourmands and wine enthusiasts, Cornell Club has started the Cornell Restaurant Club to host outings to local restaurants serving delicious and noteworthy fare. Events will take place monthly with outings to bistros, cafes and small restaurants. Gourmet meal outings will be hosted every 3 to 4 months depending on people's enthusiasm and budgets. There are even plans for house parties for sampling wine-flights.

The objective of the club is to gather a group of food and wine enthusiasts among Cornellians together to explore new and interesting restaurants in Singapore along the great Singaporean tradition (eating!), socialize and network in informal atmospheres, and foster shared camaraderie for Cornell and lifelong friendships.

Cornell is unique among the Ivies for having a Hospitality School, unreputably one of the best in the world, and Singapore is unique globally in having a campus of this school on-site at the Cornell Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management. We will be sharing with DUAL the best of Cornell Hotel School by inviting them to those restaurant events which showcase Cornellian-owned and managed eating establishments in Singapore. This will also support our fellow Cornellians by generating greater business and market awareness for them. Other get-togethers at general interest eating establishments will be kept to the Cornell base, but you are always welcome to bring your friends. As always with foods and wines, the more the merrier!

We are very proud to kick off, as our inaugural event, a dinner on Thursday 13 September at the Wine Garage, Robertson Quay, which is aptly a Cornellian- owned, managed and helmed establishment.

There are 3 Cornell Hotelies at the Wine Garage:
- Proprietor Devin Kimble, MPS Cornell Hotel School 93 (also owner of Brewerkz, where DUAL holds its monthly drinks), who has kindly extended an invite to hold the inaugural event
- Chef Travis Maseiro (Hotel School, 2003), who has prepared for us a delightful line-up of New American dishes with airflown ingredients for a very favourable price just for Cornell
- Corporate Beverage Director Treys Ladrido (Hotel School, 2003), who has selected some of the fine wines on the menu

Please RSVP Sonia (sonia.ong at gmail.com) by 10 September, specifiying your choices of:
i) Either the food only option or Food and Wine Option
ii) Both the first and second courses and if you want to try both choices (which we may be able to do if we get even numbers of interested people).

Click here to find out more about the menu.

For more on the Wine Garage, see http://www.winegarage.com.sg/restaurant.html.

Come and support our Cornellians and have a great evening and happy tummy to boot. Looking forward to seeing all of you there for a relaxing and enjoyable evening of socializing, network and good food and wine!

We thank our Hong Kong alumni for sharing this idea with us, which has been extremely successful for them. If you have any restaurants you would like to the Cornell Restaurant Club to try, particularly those owned or managed by Cornellians, please let Sonia know at sonia.ong@gmail.com.
