Sunday Movie Outing - Ezra Cornell and the Founding of Cornell University
What do you know about Ezra Cornell and the university he founded? How did he
come by his wealth? Why did he decide to start a university? Why was this
university unique from all those American universities before and how did it
change higher education in the U.S.? Why are these words so special: "I would
found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study." Do
YOU know your Cornell history?
Continuing with our history theme this year (following on from dinner at the
Singapore History Museum, history of Buddhism tour via the Nalanda Trail
exhibit at the Asian Civilisation Museum), we invite you to join us for a fun,
easy-going Sunday afternoon movie, hanging out with your Cornell buddies and
friends who just want to see a good film, on the history of the founding of
Cornell University. An Emmy-award winning fascinating programme 1 hour in
length, with quiz (of course there's a test afterwards - we're an academic
institution! ) and prizes at the end! Cornell's history department is one of
the best in the U.S. - make sure you know your history of Cornell!
